An organic method for pest control
The sulphur burner or sublimator is a stainless steel container that serves to evaporate micronised sulphur and protect our crop from all kinds of fungi and mites that feed on our plants. This burner consists of a compartment (where the sulphur is introduced to sublimate) and a resistance at the bottom which, once connected, heats up to 140 degrees, the temperature necessary for the gases generated to be non-toxic.
This method, which is totally ecological and very simple to use, is ideal for standard growing rooms at the vegetative stage or for cuttings or mother plants. However, when it enters the flowering stage, it should be stopped (around the first or second week), as these gases could affect flower's taste, smell and general quality.
How to use the sulphur burner (sulphur sublimator)
- Put micronised sulphur (the higher the purity, the less odour it will leave in the room) in the inner compartment of the burner.
- Then hang it about 40 centimetres above the plants.
- Connect the sublimator to a digital timer so that it runs for two hours once a week (always at night, with the extractor and lights off).
- It is advisable to leave the fans running to distribute the sulphur properly.
- If it is used as a treatment and not as a preventive measure, it should be used for 1 hour a day under the same conditions: at night and with the lights and extractors off.
What is sulphur used for in cannabis crops?
Sulphur is used in cannabis crops as an organic method of pest control. The gases generated by this chemical element change the pH of the area so that fungi (botrytis, powdery mildew...) and mites (red spider mites, thrips...) do not have the necessary conditions to establish themselves in the crop.
