The relationship between Mexico and skulls

The Aztec country is one of the pioneers in everything related to tobacco, cannabis and psychedelic substances, so it is not surprising that there are a multitude of paraphernalia items that represent their customs or symbols. 

In this case, the design of the Mexi Shisha is based on the mythical Mexican skulls. Its origin dates back to the 19th century, a time when Mexico experienced one of the greatest economic and political crises in its history. To represent the pain and poverty of the Mexican people at the expense of the greed of the upper echelons, José Guadalupe Posada, a renowned caricaturist, began to draw people with a skull instead of their face.

Such drawings gradually gained momentum until they became a symbol of the Aztec country. Catrinas (as they are called there) have many meanings for Mexicans today, but the most common one is the fact that they are not afraid of death. For this reason, all skulls usually have a smile drawn on them, as is also the case with the Mexi Shisha.

A spectacular hand-painted design

The skull depicted on the Mexi Shisha is black, although it has a multitude of different coloured symbols around its face. Several hearts can be seen drawn on it, which shows the clear Mexican relationship between death and love. In addition, several pendants containing small skulls and diamonds hang from the mast.
