It works almost immediately, giving a clear reading as soon as you turn it on and place the sensor in the nutrient solution. If it’s showing a low reading you’ll need to adjust the amount of nutrients you’re feeding your plants, increasing the dose slightly. If it’s too high you’ll need to lower your nutrient doses too or use a bit more Water Treatment Products to dilute it. EC in germination: 0.4-0.6; growth: 1.2-1.4, flowering: 1.8-2.0.

You’ll need to make sure your water is the same temperature as the air or the room you’re growing in so that your plants don’t get too stressed out. Water that’s too cold isn’t natural for your plants, and if it’s too hot it’ll cook the roots.

Bluelab's EC Pen is easy to use and calibrate

Every time you use this device you’ll need to clean the sensor using tap water – make sure to dry them off too. If done regularly your EC meter should last as long as possible; you don’t need to store them in any sort of liquid.

In order to calibrate it you’ll need a 2.77EC solution. Please the sensor in the liquid and hold the CAL button for a couple of seconds. Once “CAL” comes up on the screen, it’s ready to go.
