Bluelab’s pH Pen is a quality digital device. It’s waterproof, reliable, fast and super easy to use. It also has quite a modern look to it, white with blue details. It’s an incredibly sturdy device. It has a digital LCD screen that shows the temperature (0-50°C) and the pH (0-14) readings. It has three buttons; the first one from top to bottom turns the device on and off, the second button is used to configure the calibration and the third button changes from °C and °F. It comes with 1 AAA battery.

How to use Bluelab pH Pen Meter:

Press the top button to turn its light blue screen on. Now, place it with the sensor first in your water. After a few seconds you should see the exact pH values on the screen; adjust your nutrient solution to 6-6.8 in soil and 5.5-6.3 in hydroponics and coco coir using a pH adjuster. You’ll also need to keep an eye on the water temperature, which comes up along the bottom of the screen. Try and keep it at the same temperature as the room so that your plants can absorb as many nutrients as possible. Make sure that it isn’t too hot or too cold. In order to turn the meter off, press hold the “hold” button for a few seconds and “OFF” will appear on the screen.

Make sure to clean it after every time you use it with filtered water; salts and minerals from your nutrient solution may end up drying and damaging the sensor, which could cause faulty readings in the future. This pH meter comes with a sachet of maintenance liquid in which the sensor will need to be submerged when it’s not in use so that it doesn’t dry up and degrade. The sensor is the part that looks like a sort of bulb.

To change the battery:

Once the battery has run out, you’ll need to get a screwdriver to open the upper part of the device to replace it. We recommend using brand batteries as they last much longer. Make sure to keep it calibrated, checking it at least once a month.

To calibrate it:

In order to calibrate it you’ll need Calibration Solutions; simply place the sensor in the liquid until numbers come up on the screen. Press the CAL button until the word CAL is on the screen, and then repeat the process with the pH 4 solution. We recommend taking care when switching from one solution to the other; you should dry it first so that they don’t accidentally mix.
