Brix Refrectometer to Calculate Natural Sugars 

This brix meter is a device that’s generally used in the food and agriculture industries in order to figure out the amount of natural sugars in fruit and the various juices obtained from them.

When it comes to cannabis it’s used for pretty much the same purpose, although rather than figuring out how sweet the plant is it’s used to see if it’s feeding correctly by analyzing the amount of sugars in the leaves. In order to know if your plants are really making the most of the nutrients being used, they should produce a Brix reading between 10 and 22%.

How to use the Refractometer:

• All materials and devices used must be completely clean and free of any residues that may contaminate the result.
• Take a few leaves from the middle of your plant.
• Try and extract the sap by squishing the leaves, use a mortar and pestle for the best results, or a clean BHO borosilicate tube.
• Using a clean dropper, suck up all of the liquid that you’ve managed to squeeze out. Place 2-3 drops on the glass part of the refractometer.
• Try and get the sap to evenly spread around the base without any air bubbles.
• Find somewhere with direct sunlight, hold the device and focus it by turning the wheel-
• Check the eyepiece and look at the brightest area. This is the percentage of Brix degrees in your plant.
• Once you’re finished, clean the device using water. Take extreme care.
